The Gift Of Tears

There is a desire You cannot despise,
That knows that love is fire, and lust is rust,
And gives birth to the heart's thoughts through the eyes
To quench my soul, knowing I turn to dust.

May tears of damnation be strange to me;
I do not want to cry the tears of death,
For when Your Mercy I at last should see,
I realize You gave me Your own breath.

So may my tears be mingled with Your blood!
May tears of true contrition be my milk!
For I deserved to die in the Great Flood,
And yet You let me sleep in sheets of silk!

The love You feel for me is like a fire
That burns for nothing more than my desire.

O Tears come, come not in vain not as the crocodile tears O Tears come come with the love for the Sacrificed Holy BL0Od through the pure pain of love........///
Beautiful devotional piece of poetry, well articulated and elegantly penned with spiritual insight. Thanks for sharing Michael.
I used to shed tears more readily as a young man-tears of sorrow; tears of joy when I heard a great singer, or saw a great athlete win. Now I do not shed many tears. could be the source of tears but not proven to be. I don't think you deserved to drown in the Great Flood. No one did.
'For I deserved to die in the Great Flood, And yet You let me sleep in sheets of silk! ' I really love these two lines Luc. As I said I am an atheist, but I agree with these lines.. Our world is filled with people who have no values, no compassion, and worst of all no EMPATHY.. I don't know very well about important virtues because I had (unfortunately) shown little interest towards Christian theology, but I should.. 'Love thy neighbour' - we need that.. As Christ dies for our sins as it was written in the Bible - I look at it as myth and fiction - but then, there are sinful people all around.. There are people who take things for granted.. We are taking humanity for granted.. Christian, belonging to any other religion, agonists, Satanist (!) , atheist - whatever the hell we may be, we have no right to be so ungrateful to our beautiful planet and its residents (human or non-human) .. No right to single-handedly ruin it all as we have been doing for centuries... We need more humane approach, more compassion, more empathy, and more love - and amen to that brother...
So may my tears be mingled with Your blood! May tears of true contrition be my milk! For I deserved to die in the Great Flood, And yet You let me sleep in sheets of silk! Soul. love, dust, . lust, tears of damnation, tears of death, your mercy, so many ideas you are trying to spread through this poem dear poet. thank you very much. tony
