The Jeffers Petroglyphs

Is it the voice of the glacier
that rumbles in the rocks

These drawings need no embellishment
They are adequate for the ages

Every poet thinks
his doings are important.

Here the tomahawk made
red scratches on granite

And the hunter hung his belt
among the stars
