The Monk Saigyo

Should I blame the moon
For bringing forth this sadness,
As if it pictured grief?
Lifting up my troubled face,
I regard it through my tears

Beautiful poem. This internal conflict that is so painful looks up at moon as if it needed a companion. The moon that is capable of bringing high and low tides to ocean is also capable of bringing some mood swings to us also. A monk in intense meditation while tries to recover from external pressures can also feel the internal pressure of fluctuating rhythms of body influenced by moon bringing out this beautiful intensely sensitive poem.
