The Truth

Poem By Betty Ashe

This is the truth
I have betrayed you
This is the truth
I have lied to you
This is the truth
I feel no remorse
This is the truth
I will do it again

Is this the truth?
It meant nothing!
Is this the truth?
Please believe me
Is this the truth?
I am truly sorry
Is this the truth?
It won't happen again

The truth is this
I was a bit bored
The truth is this
Just a bit of fun
The truth is this
I got caught out
The truth is this
I'm only human

How many times do I need to be told?
He doesn't want me, just what I can give
How many lies, to my ears they are old.
Is this really how he expects me to live?

The Jury Is Out

I stand naked in front of judges
Alone in my torture

Tongues as sharp as shattered glass

Trusting the word of a liar
Unsighted to the obvious, ignoring the warnings
How do you recognise deceit when it smiles so magnificently?
Faith has a replacement; disillusionment.

I Can'T Love You

Time to walk away now
I’ve come to my end
My heart is breaking
And I’m losing a friend
