I open my fist and let the Universe
by Anusha Sreekant
Slip from between my casual fingers.
The sun, the moon, all land, stars and seas
Behold! I leave you to your own despair.
I shut my eyes tighter than against my worst nightmare;
My eyes are to rid of their favourite dreams.
Dreams cannot do them fair justice
When they must alone retire.
Unconfined, unsettled, wild
I must rise and break from all set rhymes
My only poem within me
Now in a wooden crate set apart
And coiled close in that which is at once
All and one.
