The Weight Of The Cross

The weight of the cross
is not of silver or gold,
the measure of the weight,
is the responsibility that it holds

The responsibility
is to touch every hurting heart,
to prove to those we meet,
Christ is the only place to start

The start of a new life
filled with compassion and love,
to be worthy of the Father,
the Father in Heaven above

A light to be a beacon
that others may see,
that He can do for them,
what He has done for me

A burden of the soul
that none should perish,
a burden of love,
for everyone to cherish

That burden gets lighter
as your walk proceeds,
a testimony to Jesus,
in words and in deeds

Regardless of the obstacles
that we encounter on the way,
He gives us the strength to overcome,
renewed each and every day

If your burden gets heavy
and you seek to be set free,
just remember the burden,
He carried upon that tree
