The Woman Who Walked Into Dreams

She hurries from work
into the hustle & bustle of Tesco
to find...everyone
inescapably still

people frozen in motion
by the frozen peas
nobody moves a muscle
nobody checks out at the check out

sweat trickles
and tickles your spine
your soul catches its breath
you feel as if you are in
a zombie movie

and it's real
all too real
you blink your eyes
& when you open them again
the Tesco's tannoy
thanks its customers

for observing
the minute silence
for those who gave their lives
in the war.
Paper poppies
bloom at the check out.
