Though Little About Nature

Though little about Nature I can claim to know
I can distinguish a currawong from a crow
And I can tell a wallaby from a kangaroo
Or a rosella or lorikeet from a cockatoo
But such common knowledge is no boost to my self esteem
For everyone knows of such things it does seem
And though we learn a little from her every day
Nature from us her secrets keep hidden away
In a bog or a swamp a cacti will not grow
And a trout likes to spawn where the river rapids flow
This is basic knowledge on Nature to most
And surely not something of which one should boast
The one who can grow a giant seed from a tiny dark seed
My knowledge of her very basic indeed
Compared to her's human achievements seem small
The amazing one who grows food for us all.
