You Made Me Strong

you made me strong
but not strong enough
to bear the weight
of losing you-
there were a hundred trees
that knew my name
and your earth-browned skin,
Smelled the same
Every star that hung precariously
above the silhouette of
Cornstalks, their shivering arms-
they are at a loss too
And row upon row of pine
that you tended- so tall and
unbending, as old as I am now
Are they bereft as I am now?
As barren and lost?
Even endearing silence seems crude
and space suffocating
(and I can't bear the sound of my
name or the Sight of my face)
you made my heart,
won't you stop it
from
breaking?
