Tikvah's Ode

Eilat, minuscule by what we know is worthy
small, but nonetheless mighty city of refuge
near the Crossing Point by the east shore of the Red Sea
between pharaoh and the promised land it tends
seeking for lifebut out of breathe, panting for waters
pursuing after joy beyond worldly pleasures
dreaming of freedom, our one and only dream available—
what lasts, what endures, what ushers in eternity and all of forever
after the high is gone and friends disappear into the night
in the centre of this universe, Eilat calls, crossing over to life
