To My Daughter

May your wings not melt, my child
When you soar near the sun
May you do all you ever want
And never want a thing undone

Dreams are not always wise
Dreams are not always good
May your dreams be forever nice
May your dreams be understood

May you live as long as you want
And not want as long as you live
Others may be known for what they earn
May you be known for what you give

In the seas and oceans of the world
Many a pearl we can find
But you may forever be the best
Beautiful, gentle and kind

May the world value you as such
And treat you as its pearl supreme
May you make it the proudest oyster
That will ever be, has ever been
