To My Mother

To My Mother

Poem By Shimanta Bhattacharyya

Do I despair
That after all these years
I have failed to gift you a single poem
From the scattered bouquet
Of my incipient Muse?

Ah, perhaps
I am no poet;
-An errant son
Wallowing in errant rhymes
And forever dreaming of gnomes and unicorns-

But today,
I hope to win, mother
And so I strive to decorate you
With a bunch of lilacs
Wreathed in tearful smiles that spring
From the nethermost reaches of an impatient heart!
