To Right A Wrong

Poem By Jonathan Goldman a.k.a JGthepoet

“We Have Reason To Believe” was a book,
Which the Foundations of Anglo Jewry, in the Sixties, shook,
When two men made a mischief, with several more,
When Chief Rabbi Brodie was on a Pastoral Tour.

Now these two men were Treasurers of
A Jewish College full of love
For Jewish Learning and Values more,
Which created Ministers and Rabbis for
The Future of Anglo Jewish Shuls,
And Teachers for the Hebrew Schools.

The mischief that these Treasurers wrought,
Was with good intentions, so they thought,
For they believed that Rabbi Jacobs though great,
Shouldn’t become Principal, and sealed his fate.

Rabbi Brodie back to England came,
And found a 'fait-accompli' done in his name,
Like all Political Mischiefs done,
This one did no good for anyone.
It split the Community with bad grace,
Which left in all a bad taste.

Ten Commandments were given at Sinai, we are told,
But that’s not a view that all do hold,
As many believe that not only Ten,
But the other 603 were also given then.

These Men with others who did plot,
Not caring how his reputation would blot.
For they did not wish one with beliefs that Ten,
Were only given at Sinai then,
Should be the Principal and to others teach,
When they themselves held the other belief.
But the plans they had did backfire,
When “The New London” was formed from out of the fire.

Great poem! It kept with the rhyme really well and was quite interesting.
