To Someone Special On Mother's Day

From Birth Mother To Step Mother

The years have made me wiser since you first came into my life.
To me you were competition when my ex made you his wife.

You'd be the one with their Daddy to tuck them in at night.
My time spent with him seemed to always end in a fight.

The time I spent struggling to protect my place in their heart,
was a tug of war and waste of time that only pulled us apart.

Even though I wasn't always right and you weren't always wrong,
I didn't want to be left out and you just wanted to belong.

I've learned a lot through my mistakes about the human heart.
There's room for everyone on earth if it isn't torn apart.

The times will come when you and I will surely disagree,
but I'm so glad they had you the times they didn't have me!
