Tomorrow Takes Away

Shiny paint and platted hair,
Smiles and bricks and wooden stairs,
The hopes, the whole ensemble,
The spirits here won't let if fall.

Voices rise and try to drown,
Words are punches never thrown,
An exit seems best for all,
The spirits here won't let it fall.

The tears have dried and sprung anew,
Happiness it never knew,
Can't sense that feeling anymore,
The spirits here won't let it fall.

Shadows hang of papered walls,
Bleached where the sunlight calls,
The roses didn’t grow very tall,
The spirits here won't let it fall.

Dust drifting in the breeze,
Felled the man to his knees,
Nothing lives here anymore,
The spirits here won't let it fall.

Empty house and echoed halls,
Loneliness won't let it fall,
Through winter here and throughout war
The spirits here won't let it fall.
