TORBAYHOSPITAL

IT WAS A RESTLESS NIGHT,
IN THE THEATER OF DREAMS,
THEY CALL TORBAY HOSPITAL.

ENGLISH ROSES VISITED ME WITH SPANISH TONGUES,
HOVERING OVER,
FLYING LIZARDS SMELLING OF HELICOPTER JUICE.
CACTUS WALKED THROUGH THE CORRIDORS,
AS DANCING EUNUCHS,
STRUMMED THE CLOCKS ON THE WALL,
GREEN OOZE BECAME TOMATOES,
WITH HIGH HEELED BOYS AS CHAPERONES.
CLOWNS DREW BREATH TO SQUEEZE INTO,
TOOTHPASTE TUBES PLAYED JELLY FLUTES.
ONE EYED LEPRECHAUNS GREW TALLER,
WHEN THE CLOUDS VISITED THEM,
WITH RAINBOW DRAPED OVER THEIR SHOULDERS.
THE PIANO PLAYED CHESS WITH PICASSO,
AS THE GREENGROCER FOUGHT THE ALBERT HALL.
SISTER, SISTER, TOOK THE PRESSURES,
THE MORE AND THE LESSERS,
WITH THE DOCTOR IN HIS VERMILION STRIPED PYJAMAS,
ON HER LEFT, ON HER RIGHT, ON HER.
THE FOOD SWAM UP THE CRAZY YELLOW RIVER,
FLOUNDERING ON A WELLINGTON BOOT,
FROM GIEVES AND HAWKES OF COURSE!
"WHAT A JOLLY JAPE! " SAID THE PINK BALLOON,
TO THE WATERMELON! "
"LET HIM SLEEP, BECAUSE EVEN WHEN HE IS ASLEEP,
HE IS AWAKE WEARING THAT PORCUPINE HAT".
I WAS SENSING ANOTHER NEEDLE,
OR SHOULD I SAY QUILL, FROM JILL, THE PILL.
