Heroic Simile

Poem By Robert Hass

Swimming in this state of confusion
In undercurrents she may lose him
Love has only been unkind
In the backwash of her mind

Feelings washing in and out
Drowning in a pool of doubt
Seems there is no way to filter
Past hurts that still haunt her

Treading water hard she tries
To believe there are no lies
Drifting to a place unarmed
In this sea of love becalmed

does love ever regain its fresh experience inside the history of the heart..its hard to love for the sake of love on its own merit..and not be subdued by loves old stings..still we try..we try...lovely poem tia..the problem of love nicely elucidated..
Love this beautiful poem with 10+
How honest this reads Tia - -and we have all been there sometimes - - treading water is a way of slowing down the inevitable outcome of things - both good and not so good.... you write this so well.....10/10 from Fay.xx
good stanzaic frame to gear up the theme..well written..10++
Your title is perfect, as is your piece. I wish you luck if this be autobiographical. Treading water as you so aptly put is is - simply horrible. But I would add, if treading, why not run to someone more deserving? You have encapsulated feelings to which many will relate. t x
