Trees

Many Summers Ago
I sat on the roof
with a cold beer and my guitar
and watched the sun set
over the city skyline
as time lick
the fucking thing pink
and lust wore new panties
and love wore none
and I was 22 and free
and wild beyond reason.
And Across the street,
city projects looked as
if they were going to stay forever
as the arrays of music kept everyone awake
at 2 o’ clock in the morning
and I smoked a cigarette
and pounded another beer down and
looked at the sears tower
lit up like a volcano giving birth
under a cresent of a moon
and smoke from someone
Bar-Be-Qing
at three’oclock in the morning
while the fire hydrant continued to spill
out the water where children played earlier
inside a utopia without trees
