Vainly

'Smile, '
She said to me
As smoke swirled elegantly
Encircling her visage.

She walked away,
A long, black coat slipping
Into a long, black Cadillac trailed
By tall, black stilettos.

I followed in vain
As tears in the rain
That drenched me with frustration.
There was nothing to do but
Smile.
