Visits With Grandpa
It was a long way to Grandpa's house
by Debora Soramaki
Where we would spend the day.
Instant coffee and oatmeal cookies
Were always served
There was nothing more to say.
He had no in-door plumbing,
Water was pumped out from a well.
The out house was the place to go,
You could count on it to smell.
But the highlight of the visit
Were the many chocolate bars
That were hidden from our eyes,
So for having good behavior
We'd receive the big surprise.
When the sound of the clocks ticking
Made us fall asleep
It was time for us to leave
On that long drive back home,
These are the memories I keep.
