Waiting For Fire

An animal tracks the forest,
catching a scent of something unseen, but present.
A longing plunges through him,
pressing urgently around him - rising like a strand of panic.

An ancient myth calls his name,
riding the sea waves - Aphrodote cries come with me.
His senses burn, defenses crumble,
sky and thunder, earth and water - waiting for fire.
