Waiting On You

Oh God, don’t lay this on me
For I assure you, I am unworthy
I have been measured
And been found wanting
I have been weighed time and again

I Have sat waiting
Vainly at your table
For the feast you promised
That never arrives
Yet you find a way
To keep me waiting
Always waiting
Waiting on you

No god would lay this on me
No Father would ever dare
To lay this burden
On my breaking shoulders
Just to watch me
Crumple to the ground

Our Father, where is your Heaven?
Is it hiding just above the clouds
Or is your Heaven right under our feet?
Is it all around us? Hiding in our sins?
Is where our eyes close?
Time and again?
