We Tried To Warn Them
Poem By Lawrence S. Pertillar
How could they allow their home,
To burn down like that?
'We don't have a clue.
We tried to warn them.
But were ignored.'
'They were looking through binoculars,
For anyone that looked suspicious.
And since they were accustomed,
To seeing people like us...
Depicted as hungry and homeless,
I guess they interpreted our yelling and waving...
As a new begging techique.'
