We'Ve Cut Back

Poem By Lawrence S. Pertillar

Why is it always those 'with' the money,
Attempting to convince the ones living...
On a fixed and unchanging income,
Without a dime left to spare...
They could save 'more' money?
'IF'...They decided to put their minds to it.

Well, my mind has been decided for many years now.
But somehow my rent, utility bills and food expenses,
Seem to care less where my mind happens to be...
When the time comes around and they need to get paid.
And my thoughts seem to be confined with the picking of lint,
Straight out of my empty pockets on a monthly basis.

'If 'we' can do that...
You should be able to do that too.
In fact...
We've cut back from taking those yearly cruises,
To the Caribbean.
And redecorating our home every other year?
We recently decided made no sense to 'us' at all.'
