What Came To Me

I took the last
dusty piece of china
out of the barrel.
It was your gravy boat,
with a hard, brown
drop of gravy still
on the porcelain lip.
I grieved for you then
as I never had before.

Feelings are what make us human. The poem can be interpreted in more ways than one. A loss remains a loss. It is how it affects us emotionally, is what matters. I am sad for Jane.Kenyon.
with a hard, brown drop of gravy still on the porcelain lip. -sad, but excellently written.
Touching something that someone you love who has passed away will always bring a flood of memories back..very poignant poem..I'm sorry for your loss.
