When You Are Golden

When You Are Golden

When you are golden
What am I?
A simple piece of copper?
Or a bird in the sky?

When you are golden
We all find ourselves staring
Staring at the brightness
The deep swirls of metal

When you are golden
How can I be put next to you?
How could I compare?
How could I come close?

When you are golden
You are something I am not
For I dare not boast my secret value
For eyes staring from the dark

When you are golden
Where do we go?
To the dump?
Through machines?

When you are golden
I remember you being silver
When you were silver
I remembered copper

When you are golden
Is there a space left for me?
On the shelf?
Or should I wait down here?

When you are golden
Do you care?
Where should I wait?
Or am I golden too?

Dedicated to those who remember their friends, remember till the end.
