Where Was My Soft Place

always there was i in the middle of the night
ears open like the vast blue ocean
my eyes locked in your sight

listening was my gift to you from me
swallowed your voice in my depths
heard the hollows i did in thee

frustration and sadness i lifted from your lips
ate them down deep in my whale's belly
locked away in the gallows of this ship

i kissed the distaste of the day from your tongue
sturdy i floated thru your sea of discontent
i was the rack on which your hat was hung

patiently waiting for you to decompress
my sails caught your worried winds
taking the hurt from your chest

always i kept searching for the shore
for my safe harbor in dark waters
but your gails never ceased to implore

my ship burdened with a heavy load of my own
yet i still made room for your aches
even as the sails grew slack and my future sown

the torrent was harsh for all in that scary deep
slowly my ship would make for port
and unload your cares no matter how steep

when i was tired of carrying your worries away
looking for a soft place to nestle my doubts
you were not there to listen of my long day

'swallowed your voice in my depths' I loved the food imagery for the emotions. This is a beautifully written poem, with amazing imagery.
